Smartermail: Create Spam Filtering

This guide will assist you how to analyse and act whenever customer facing issue that related to spam or being spammed. The first thing you should do is ask for email header. If cust dont know how to do it, guide them. When cust has their guide and able to generate email header, now we do our part.

I recommend to read it all through and ask via slack if you still don’t understand.

Example Email Header

Here is example header that I retrieved from customer contain spam email and they having issue being spammed repeatedly with different email address. What should do next?

Now there are 2 hints in this case.

First, you need to know whether they are being spammed with same email account or no? Let say with different and various email account.

Second, after view their email header you see on the bottom with tag line called : X-SmarterMail-TotalSpamWeight: 26

Now we know that that email messages has value 26 which is quite high. The more high value, the dangerous spam email can be. It should be less than 10 if we are talking about legit emails.

Set Spam Filtering

Go to Smartermail and set Spam Filtering. Find their domains by logged in as admin > manage > Spam Filtering.

Choose Override spam settings for this domain > Actions.

Now set score for 20 and 30 from this :

It means whenever any email with score more than 20 and 30 it will move the mail into junk folder instead of their inbox folder.
